API FA-4 current specifications

API lubricant association has introduced the new FA-4 specification to respond to the highest standards of emission reduction in commercial vehicles.

API FA-4 oils are designed for the newest engines (with values between 2.9 and 3.2 cP) and therefore have limited compatibility: their use is not possible with engines made for oils with CJ-4 specification

MB 228.61 and Mercedes-Benz

Developed for the new FA-4 standards, MB 228.61 SAE 5W-30 specification has been specially designed for commercial vehicles engines of Mercedes Benz OM 470 FE1 and OM 471 FE1 to meet high fuel economy requirements.

The MB 228.61 SAE 5W-30 specification has a low HTHS (high-temperature-high-shear viscosity) and can be used only in engines for which it is explicitly approved. It does not comply with previous specifications.
